ABOUT JustWorld
OUR MISSION:

JustWorld International acts as a catalyst for positive change in the developing world:
- by
working with local partner organizations to provide basic education,
nutrition, health and hygiene programs, and vocational training for
children in impoverished communities.
- by
raising awareness and funds in the international equestrian community
and its networks to support JustWorld programs and projects.
- by providing young people with the opportunity to actively participate in humanitarian work.
Founded
by former international equestrian champion Jessica Newman, JustWorld
International is a recognized 501(c)(3) charitable organization in the
United States and a registered Association 1901 in France. Local
branches have also been established in Mexico and Honduras. JustWorld
International has no political or religious affiliation.
Our Philosophy and Vision
While
many nonprofit organizations focus primarily on providing short-term
assistance to developing countries, JustWorld’s goals are long-term.
Studies worldwide show that education is a key to breaking the cycle of
poverty. JustWorld International focuses its efforts on some of the
poorest communities in countries such as Brazil, Cambodia, Honduras,
Kenya, Mexico, and Senegal where public education is limited or
inaccessible, threatening many children’s chances for productive lives.
JustWorld helps children who live in poverty that is unimaginable to many people in the developed world. Some examples include:
- Cambodian
children who contribute to a family’s meager income and food supply by
scavenging barefoot through the vast city dump that contains the shacks
these families call home.
- Honduran
children who have little chance of attending “free” public schools
because their families cannot afford the $150 to $300 needed each year
to pay for class fees, school uniforms, and daily transportation.
- Children
in the minority Garifuna community of Honduras orphaned by HIV/AIDS and
left with extended families who struggle to provide them with food, let
alone school fees.
- Kenyan children living in a community where the majority of households live on less than $1.64 a day.
- Brazilian children in remote areas of the country with little access to medical care and education.
- Senegalese
children sent from the countryside to the city for religious education
but with no means of acquiring secular or vocational skills and who are
left begging in the streets.
In
these communities, lack of schools, few family resources, reliance on
child labor to meet family needs, and the effects of HIV/AIDS prevent
many children from receiving much, if any, education.
- JustWorld
envisions a world in which all children have access to education,
nutrition, and the opportunity to create their own bright future.
- Because
JustWorld believes in developing culturally sensitive, sustainable
projects, it targets communities where local organizations have evolved
to help children who often fall beyond the reach of government and
large-scale humanitarian programs.
- Recognizing
that poor communities need help feeding and clothing their children to
prepare them for school, JustWorld and its partners provide food,
water, and other supplies that address some of the immediate needs of
desperately poor children while offering education that helps equip
these children for lives of self-sufficiency.
